by staff
Jul 2010

Located just north of downtown Denver, RiNo includes a remarkable concentration of over 50 creative businesses, including architects, art galleries, ceramic artists, designers, furniture makers, illustrators, painters, media artists, photographers, sculptors and an array of studio spaces.

While retaining its industrial roots, the RiNo neighborhood is now fertile ground for arts and artists. The River North Art District is dedicated to promoting and supporting the 150+ artists that live and work in the area. 50% of the art focused businesses in the neighborhood own their own spaces. As advocates for artists, RiNo also encourages developers and city agencies to embrace the artistic personality of the neighborhood. Several RiNo locations are open for First Fridays, Denver Arts Week and their annual Open Studio Tours. For more information on RiNo visit their web site at www.rinoart.org.

Lisa Kowalski Studio and Gallery is a space to view finished works and works in progress.

"Everything in life inspires me, not quite with direct interpretation, but as I see and experience faces, words, gestures, colors and shapes Ð all of it Ð I am always looking and reacting to the energy around me. These explorations evoke sensations in the viewer that are not bounded by the literal, but can be broadly identified as physical, spiritual or psychological."

Plinth Gallery Jonathan Kaplan is a well known and visible presence in contemporary American ceramics for over 40 years. His new work of slip cast assembled vessels references the Moche Culture of Northwest Coat of Peru dating between 100-800 CE.

Hadley Hooper uses non-traditional printmaking and painting techniques to create iconic paintings and illustrations. The images are unsentimental, emphatic representations of subjects and objects caught in moments of creation and entropy. Text is often used as an armature for the work, with humor and pathos offered in equal parts.

Andy Berg Artists can use line and color to represent or to abstract the world of appearances. Andy Berg uses line and color to signify the experience of being in the world. With no preconceived structure, he intuitively makes marks and applies paint in a push toward revelation.
